Boats and docks on Lake Winnipesaukee: what renters should know before arrival
Every property in our inventory on Lake Winnipesaukee includes a private dock for renter use. Here is what that looks like, how to plan for trailering your boat, and a few local marinas if you would rather rent one.
For most guests, the boat is the whole point. A week on Lake Winnipesaukee without a boat is still a great week — but the lake is 72 square miles, 253 miles of shoreline, and hundreds of islands, and there are lakeside restaurants and swim coves that are simply more fun to reach by water. The question nearly every renter asks is some version of, "Can we bring our boat?"
The short answer is yes. Here is what that looks like in practice.
Every Winnipesaukee rental includes a private dock
Every property in our inventory on Lake Winnipesaukee includes a private dock for renter use. It belongs to the property and it is yours for the week — not a shared slip, not an association assignment, not something to negotiate with neighbors. The dock comes with the house.
Bringing your own boat
You are welcome to bring your own boat. It is the most common setup by far: hitch it up, tow it to New Hampshire, launch, and tie up at the rental for the week.
Parking the trailer
There is usually room at the house for a trailer, and when there is not, there is public trailer parking in town. A few things to keep in mind wherever you park:
- Do not park on the grass — it leaves ruts and kills the lawn, and owners notice.
- Do not park in mulch or garden beds.
- Do not block the public road or any part of it — emergency vehicles and neighbors both need the space.
- Do not crowd the neighbors. When in doubt, leave more room than you think you need.
Lake levels vary
Lake Winnipesaukee levels change through the season — typically higher in late spring and early summer, lower by late summer and into fall, with weather adding its own variation on any given week. It is normal for a lake of this size, and part of what makes every visit a little different.
Public boat launches in the Wolfeboro area
If you are trailering a boat in, there are three public launches in the Wolfeboro area:
- Back Bay
- The Wolfeboro Town Docks
- Libby Museum
Each one drops you into a slightly different part of the lake — pick the launch closest to your rental and you will save yourself a long first-day run.
If you do not have a boat
Plenty of renters skip the trailer and rent locally. Several marinas around the lake rent pontoons, runabouts, and jet skis by the day or the week. Pontoons are a family favorite — perfect for cruises around the bays, tie-ups at a sandbar for the afternoon, and lunch runs to a dockside restaurant. Book early in the spring; summer rental inventory gets tight.
- Goodhue Boat Company — Wolfeboro — pontoons, runabouts, sales and service, on the lake since 1903.
- Melvin Village Marina — North end of the lake — pontoons, bowriders, and tritoons for full-day and multi-day rentals.
- Wolfeboro Corinthian Yacht Club — Wolfeboro Bay — pontoon rentals and a full-service marine center.
